Climate and Gender Expert

Doria Feminist Fund is currently seeking a Climate and Gender Expert in Syria and Lebanon.

Background

Doria Feminist Fund (DFF) recognizes the intersection of gender justice and climate change as a critical issue affecting communities, particularly women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and marginalized groups in the MENA region. Climate change disproportionately impacts those already experiencing economic, social, and political vulnerabilities, exacerbating gender inequalities and access to resources. As part of its strategic commitment to support and strengthen feminist movements working across the various thematic areas, DFF seeks to amplify the feminist activism at the intersection of gender and climate justice and support feminist activists working on this nexus in Lebanon and Syria.

In Lebanon and Syria, where environmental degradation, climate-induced displacement, and political instability disproportionately affect marginalized communities, DFF will be conducting a comprehensive research study on the gendered impacts of climate change in Lebanon and Syria with a focus on the feminist climate justice activism and practices. The research will provide a localized interpretation of feminist climate justice and activism in a region confronting war and conflict and as a result, seeing so much destruction, and environmental degradation which has concrete impacts on livelihoods, health, and survival. It will highlight key challenges, gaps, and opportunities to amplify and support the efforts being exerted at this nexus. Additionally, the research will document past and existing feminist activism related to climate justice and explore how indigenous, rural, or traditional environmental knowledge contributes to feminist climate justice. It will finally consider how different identities and communities shape climate vulnerabilities and responses.
